5 days Estels del Sud – Crossing the Beceite Mountain Passes route is a five-day long hiking activity across one of the less known and wildest mountain ranges of the Iberian Peninsula: the Mountain Passes of Beceite (Puertos de Beceite).
The main stretches of the crossing go through the Province of Tarragona and one segment runs through the Province of Teruel. The route is within the Natural Park of the Ports and covers 100 km of impressive mountainscapes and solitary tracks.
We offer guided or self-guided hiking tours for mountain lovers who wish to explore remote natural surroundings and live unique experiences.
An average-to-high difficulty crossing comprising 18 – 22 km routes and a 900 m positive slope, that is mainly directed to nature lovers and mountain hikers.
Itinerary and program
Arrival at the village of Beceite and the “Hotel La Fábrica de Solfa”. Check-in and briefing on the Estels del Sud tour.
Day 2: Beceite/Beseit – Arnes
A spectacular hike following the mountainous formations along the northen side of the Beceite Mountain Passes. We will climb to the top of The Penyagalera (alt. 1,033 m) and follow the Les Valls River. We will then cross the Ulldemó and the Algars Rivers and check in at “Lo Corral d´Arnes”, in the village of Arnes.
Day 3: Arnes – Paüls
Hiking along the southern side of the Passes, we will walk around the foot of the Roques de Benet and hike up to the Coll de la Gilaberta. A quick descent will take us to the village of Paüls. Check-in at the local “Ca Les Barberes”.
Day 4: Paüls – The Refuge of Mountain Caro
There is a steep climb to the top of Montcaro (alt. 1,447 m). Our route turns into a constant ascent with permanent views to the valleys, the Ebro River, the Delta and the Passes. Lodging at the refuge of Mountain Caro.
Day 5: Refuge of Mountain Caro – Refuge of Font Ferrera
This stage crosses the very heart of the Mountain Passes of Beceite, looking upon the southern side or seaside scenic views and the valley where the Matarranya River is born. Lodging at the Refuge of Font Ferrera.
Day 6: Refuge of Font Ferrera – Beceite/Beseit
We will follow the course of the Matarranya River from its source till we cross the famous Estrets del Parrissal (The Parrissal Straits) and afterwards continue along its boardwalks till we reach the village of Beceite. This is the end of our 5-day tour.
