Singular Matarranya is a 3-day experience journey for travelers eager to get to know the cuisine, the culture and the natural environment of the territory in a unique way.
This trip is a slow travel experience so you may discover the emblematic sites, landscapes and villages of this Aragonese region of Catalan culture starting out from La Fábrica de Solfa, our charming rural hotel in Beceite. With just eight rooms, this family-run accommodation on the banks of the Matarranya River in Beseit/Beceite allows you to enjoy the landscape, discover our heritage and taste the local cuisine.
A relaxed tour, ideal for families, cultural tourism lovers and all those who wish to discover the historical and artistic heritage of the surrounding territory.
A three-day journey of experiences that can be guided or self-guided. As a recommendation, this experience is meant to be guided.

Itinerary and program
Day 1:
12:00 h. Arrival at Beceite, at the Hotel La Fábrica de Solfa. Check-in and tour through the village of Beceite: we will visit the old nineteenth – sixteenth century ??? defensive Wall gates; the eighteenth century Church of Saint Bartholomew; the fourteenth century Town Hall building; and the eighteenth century paper mills
13:00 h –Transfer to the Ulldemó River and more specifically to Les Coves de Bertrol (the Caves of Bertrol), where we will prepare a summer picnic (salad, potatoe omelette, jamón [prosciutto], etc.) In summer you can carry your bathing suits so you can enjoy a swim in one of the most beautiful spots of the Matarranya.
17:00 h – A guided visit and walk through the town of Valderrobres. We will visit the interior of the fifteenth century Episcopalean Castle-Palace and the sixteenth century Santa María la Mayor Archpriest Church. We will stroll along the Medieval alleys of the town down to Plaza Mayor and its sixteenth century Renaissance Town Hall, the Renaissance Mansions, the Stone Bridge and the fourteenth century Gate of San Roque.
19:30 h – End of the guided tour.
20:30 – 21:00 h – Dinner at the restaurant of the Hotel La Fábrica de Solfa. Local products and signature cuisine.
Day 2:
08:00 h – Breakfast at the Hotel La Fábrica de Solfa.
09:00 h – Departure to the Parrissal Gorge. A little excursion to the source of the Matarranya River, a 9 km hike if we complete the route to the Parrissal Straits. An easy route following the course of the river that takes us along wooden boardwalks and a narrow trail from where we can admire a unique landscape of water and limestone rocks forming giant stone spires.
12.30 h – End of the excursion, departure to La Fresneda.
13:30 – 14:00 h – Lunch at the Restaurant of the Hotel El Convent at La Fresneda.

17:30 h – We drive from La Fresneda to La Portellada and visit the Salt of La Portellada, an amazing waterfall of the Tastavins River. We then drive on to the village of Ráfales and take a paved forest track that follows the Tastavins River to the village of Fuentespalda.
18:30 h – In Fuentespalda we will visit the Casa dels Belses (House of The Belses), a unique seventeenth century mansion overlooking the new square of the town. Fuentespalda was founded in the twelfth century with the push of the first repopulation of this region by the Christians of the north: Catalans and Occitans.
19:30 h – Return to the village of Beceite.
20:30 – 21:00 h – Dinner at the restaurant of the Hotel La Fábrica de Solfa. Local products and signature cuisine.
Day 3:
08:30 h – Breakfast at the Hotel La Fábrica de Solfa.
09:30 h – A stroll through the village of Cretas/Queretes, where we will visit its Renaissance Church, the Wall gates, the Gate of San Antonio, the Casa Turull and the Town Hall dungeons.
10:30 h – On the road to Calaceite we will stop at the sixth centry B.C Iberian burial tombs.
10:45 h – On the way we will also stop at Tossal Redó in Calaceite, and ancient eighth century B.C. Iberian settlement.
11:30 h – Arrival to Calaceite. A stroll through the town, the Calle Mayor, the calle Maella, the Baroque Mansions, the seventeenth century Town Hall, the Casa Jasa, the Casa Moix, the eighteenth century Baroque Church of the Ascension and the Juan Cabré Archeological Museum.
13:00 h – A traditional aperitive at the Raconet de la Plaça in Calaceite.
14:00 h – Picnic at the Chapel of San Cristóbal before we visit the monumental fifth to third centuries B.C. Iberian settlement of San Antonio in Calaceite, that is close to the Chapel.
17:00 h – Return home.
