The Ebro River Delta tour is a five-day hike across one of the most important wetlands of Europe. It is a natural park surrounded by three mountain so you can enjoy these unique environments and get to know the native wildlife, flora and fish of the Delta.
An average-to-high difficulty route consisting in 10 to 15 km stages and a 500 m positive slope that is mainly directed to nature lovers and mountain hikers. Our base camp is in Sant Carles de la Ràpita, a fishing harbour located in the southern side of the Delta.
Itinerary and program
Day 1:
Arrival at the town of Sant Carles de la Ràpita and the “Hotel Restaurante La Llansola”. Check-in and briefing on the Ebro River Delta tour.
Day 2: Serra del Montsià – La Foradada
Transfer to the beginning of the route. Hiking up the Montsià to the Foradada through strawberry tree, laurel bush and holm oak territory till we reach the Ebro river Delta observation post. Lodging at the “Hotel Restaurante La Llansola”.
Day 3: L´Ametlla de Mar – L´Ampolla
Transfer to L´Ampolla where we will catch the regional train to L´Ametlla de Mar. From there we will hike along the GR-92 bordering the Mediterranean coast and its famous coves with sparkling turquoise waters. Lodging at the “Hotel Restaurante La Llansola”.
Day 4: Birding in the Ebro River Delta
We will go to the protected areas of the Delta to get acquainted with its inhabitants: the flamingos, the grey herons, the seagulls. We will learn about the older and more traditional irrigation systems and fishing methods. Lodging at the “Hotel Restaurante La Llansola”.
Day 5: Puertos de Beceite (Beceite Mountain Passes) – Racó d´en Marc
Transfer back to the beginning of the route. We will visit one of the many spectacular spots of the Beceite Mountain Passes on the southern side of the massif: the Racó d´en Marc ravine. We will study the erosion of the soil and the birth of small watersprings within the ravines themselves. Lodging at the “Hotel Restaurante La Llansola”.
Day 6: Serra de Cardó (The Cardó Mountain Range)
Transfer to the Serra de Cardó. We will reach the doors to this old sanctuary and hike a circular route that will take us past its small chapels and water springs. We will learn about the history of the chapels and the hermits that lived there. Return to destination.
