The Tossal del Rei Route is an average-to-high difficulty guided hiking activity, ideal for athletes and mountain lovers who wish to overcome one-day minor challenges while discovering natural and cultural environments rich with stories and traditions.
Our local guides will lead you across the lands of the Beceite Mountain Passes, show you the biodiversity of this impressive calcareous massif and tell you curious stories and legends.
Here we suggest a 20 km itinerary with a 950 m positive slope along the valley of the Pena River and a hike up to the top of The Tossal del Rei (or Tossal dels Tres Reis), the historical boundary between the kingdoms of Aragon, Catalunya and Valencia.
We will begin this excursion at the end of the Pena Reservoir (Beceite – Valderrobres), hike up the old road that takes us to the Chapel of Sant Miquel del Port or Espinalbar (1,150 m) and then, following a mountain trail, we will hike up to the Tossal del Rei (1,356 m). We will then descend along the Pena River till we get back to the vehicle.
If you feel like following trails surrounded by mountains and valleys of marvellous natural beauty, do not miss out on this hiking route that you will surely want to repeat.
The best slow travel adventures await you at The Matarranya!
