The Via Verde Nature Trail / From Cretas to Xerta is a low-difficulty cycle tourism route, ideal for friends, families, couples and schools… that wish to experience pedaling through natural and cultural environments.
It is a self-guided activity on bicycle (either mountain, traditional or electric bikes) thought out so you may enjoy one of the most spectacular stretches of the Vía Verde that communicates the Matarranya, Terra Alta and Baix Ebre territories and has its final destination at the Azud (dam) of the Ebro River at Xerta.
Along this 42 km ride (36 km downhill and 6 km on level ground) you will discover a peaceful cycle tourism route, farmlands and mountain sides, rivers and natural water pools that urge us to stop and admire the extraordinary views of a land that has so many stories to tell.
From Cretas to Xerta we cross 40 tunnels and 15 railway bridges between the Algars, the Canaletes and the Ebro Rivers while passing alongside the old railway stations of Lledó-Arnes, Horta de Sant Joan, Bot, Prat de Comte, El Pinell de Brai and Benifallet, privileged testimonies of the old railroad tracks that communicated Aragón with the Mediterranean Sea for 31 years. It was closed down definitely in 1973.
The activity will start out from the office of Matarranya Aventura, in the village of Cretas/Queretes. This is where you will pick up your bicycles and other equipment. We will agree on the time of our meeting in the old train station of Xerta so we can transport you back.
¡IT IS NECESSARY TO BOOK A MINIMUM OF 48 HOURS IN ADVANCE!
